A journey to the heart of the avalanche

Les 2 Alpes has made a speciality of educational off-piste security. First of all, by setting up the Free Respect programme nine years ago and by welcoming the Robocoaster, imagined by Marc Dode, a native of the resort who is very concerned by the subject.

At first, Free Respect was just a one-off event, intended to sensitise the clientele to the risks and dangers of the mountains. Taking into account the great success of the operation and especially the necessity of continuing to communicate on the subject, it was extended over the whole season every year.

It is a question, as Roman Poyet, who is in charge of the animation, says, of creating "an alternative to the off-piste prohibition" because everyone knows how difficult it is for lovers of the mountains to resist the immaculate powder snow of off-piste slopes.

Free Respect begins on Monday evenings with theoretical explanations and meetings with guides and ski patrolmen. The next day, you will get acquainted with the equipment (Arva beacon, shovels, probes...) directly on the terrain. Even the non-skiers appreciate.

Thus Robocoaster perfectly integrated this program of security and knowledge of avalanches

Realized on the principle of the Futuroscope attraction " Dance with Robots ", Robocoaster pulls the participants through an adventure which lasts two minutes in all, among which twenty endless seconds in the silence and the blackness of an avalanche. We are terribly shaken up and finally we can hear a dog scratching.  What the attraction does not simulate (how can it?), is the feeling of compression and the lack of air. But it is already great!
