Canyon descent in Maurienne for old and young

When the heat comes down to the valleys and when the torrents, fed by the smelt of snows rush downhill along the piled up rocks, the famous chaos, it is the moment to start a fun activity full of sensations; the canyon descent.

One can participate in a family group, equipped with a helmet and with a neoprene suit (made from size twelve year old, it is the open door for adventurous teenagers), a swimming suit and a pair of sports shoes, one is ready.

All the qualified guides will complete the equipment with ropes and will explain how to tackle a true mountain sport which does not allow for improvisation. But pleasure is the main thing and the canyons know how to adapt themselves to their public, if you know how to choose the one you are going to face.

The Ecot canyon at Bonneval sur Arc, for example.  It is considered to be the most beautiful and fun in the Maurienne valley.

It is the Arc stream which "supplies" the waterfall. It is classified "PD", i.e. peu difficile (not too difficult), especially in its first part where you just have to link small jumps to reach the Pont de la Lame.

One can then execute more acrobatic jumps and even cross a siphon, this natural conduit in which the water remains constant and which generates currents. But it is always possible to find a way out if you suddenly realize that your boldness is not in sync with your physical and technical means. You can by-pass the obstacle, do a longer belay with the rope and it's done. The reward is a magnificent final toboggan. One of the real pleasures of canyoning!
