Rain of stars in Rhône-Alpes

Updating : 18/04/2008

Since always, Rhône-Alpes has been well known for its plethora of starred chefs recognized by the respected Guide Michelin. But the region distinguishes itself by welcoming in Lyon, the most illustrious of the 3 stars, Paul Bocuse himself and the rarest also: Anne Sophie Pic, in Valence, the only woman bearing the supreme reward.

Le Neuvième Art

Sixty one starred chefs in eight departments, not bad! All the more so that five of the three star chefs, and highly respected ones at that, are among those already mentioned.

Let's add the famous chef with his hat, Marc Veyrat who sublimates, in Annecy, his native Haute-Savoie, by searching out mountain plants; the third generation of Troisgros, in Roanne, with Michel, "son and nephew of..." who furthermore has been awarded "world's best restaurant" by the famous American guide Zagat Survey.

And Georges Blanc, whose empire, in the heart of the gourmet Bresse, continues to spread. After gastronomy pleasures offer yourself, in the former orangery, the enjoyment of an exceptional Spa.

Among the promotions, as rare and as precious in the Michelin every year, we shall retain the one of La Bouitte, in Saint Martin of Belleville, in Savoie. For years, René Meilleur has ploughed his furrow. Joined by his son Maxime, they obtained together a second star which consecrates this delightful house with both a regional and modern cuisine.

Ratatouille

Another nice surprise, but absolutely deserved, for Christophe Roure's cuisine who has obtained two stars, in his little town in the Loire department, by working with the Saint Rambert amber beer and the Pilat apples.

One could of course have expected that the Red Guide notices Philippe Bouissou, already starred twice at the Terrasses d' Uriage and who now obtains a star for the family house, the hotel restaurant Faurie in Saint Agrève, in Ardèche where he welcomes only eight persons who enjoy Jerusalem artichokes or the Lignon trout, coated with rye breadcrumbs.

A formula between a top restaurant and a table d'hôtes which meets with more and more success.
