Ski lovers the world over know the Sarenne slope. From the Pic Blanc at 3 330 metres alt., it slopes down between rocks and fir trees over sixteen kilometres. This year, it celebrates its thirtieth anniversary!

Everyone is there, the English, French, Dutch, Russians, Czech, Polish and even the Canadians, to enjoy the grand panorama offered by l'Alpe d'huez over the prestigious summits of the park des Ecrins and to enjoy some of its three hundred sunny days per year.
But especially, because they dream of doing the descent of the Sarenne, jewel of l'Alpe d'Huez, which is only accessible (in its totality of course) forty days a year.
It is qualified as "black", not because of particular difficulties, even if it is necessary to take into account the bends which start on the glacier, but because of its length which requires a good physical condition. It "warms the thighs" as addicts of the Sarenne say and, even if you stop two or three times in the descent, it is necessary to have stamina.

It is Laure Pequegnot, Vice Olympic Champion of the Slalom who speaks best about it: «it is very sunny, very long with sixteen kilometres of descent and offers many different landscapes, with rocks at the top and trees in gorges...»
Skiers of high level need half an hour "to swallow" the Sarenne and approximately one hour for a skier of average level, but in good condition.
More time is necessary, for all those who will have the pleasure to go down the Sarenne in the moonlight (yes it exists!). You take the last cable lift to climb up to Pic Blanc, have a gastronomic break in a refuge, in the heart of the glacier and then descent to l'Alpe d'Huez, supervised by ski patrolmen and ski instructors. And you will remember it all your life!
