When lavender embalms the whole Drôme…

Mobilize your five senses for a tour of lavender in flower. The mauve fields waving under the sizzling heat, ice cream and crème brûlée enchanting the palate and the flowers rubbed between one's hands, so that they express all their perfume:
the blooming of lavender starts at the beginning of June.

Lavender fields are part of the Provençal Drôme landscape, all year long. Tender green in spring, they change then to mauve and pastel blues then to grey-blue after the harvest, the colour they will keep all winter long.

 

The lavender flowers in waves from the beginning of June till the end of August, depending on soil and exposure, height and geographical situation.

 

Follow the Lavender roads (routes de la Lavande) to discover its sculptured landscapes, its distillation which separates the essential oil from lavender water which is call hydrolat. It is with this that Montélimar will perfume the Provençal Paths, during the Lavender festival, in July. A rendezvous not to be missed.

By discovering the parties involved with lavender, beginning with seventy farmers, grouped together within the Association of Lavender Producers, so that the quality of this precious plant is always maximised, one can discover a surprising world.

 

Lavender belongs to the same family as thyme,
sage and rosemary; it is thus not surprising to find it used
in cooking. The only constraint being not to let it infuse
too long so that the dish does not taste of soap!
Question of dexterity ...

 

Cupboards have always been perfumed with lavender, it is the best mothballs, it can be added to the linen last water of rinsing, but it has evident therapeutic virtues and constitutes the best of ramparts against infections, if hospitals consent to vaporize some in their premises.

 

In brief, lavender is magnificent and, all over its territory, you can find quantities of products for your own use and to bring back as gifts. Impossible to make a mistake, everyone all over the world likes.
