Nature

Flowers of the Alps and wild animals

Updating : 23/05/2008

Spending a night in a refuge in the park of Vanoise, the very first National Park created in France, in 1963, and undoubtedly also one of the most precious for its fauna and its exceptional flora, remains an unforgettable experience and a great moment of harmony with nature.

Refuges are a very typical accommodation in the Alps. They are only accessible by foot, but this does not stop them from offering sometimes amazing comfort at such heights

At Roc de la Pêche, for example, it is said that it is a four star refuge and it is quite true. It is situated at two hours by foot from Pralognan-la-Vanoise and when you arrive there, you can enjoy the Jacuzzi, the sauna and the hammam, in summer or in winter, in a magnificent setting.

It represents one of the nine stopping places of the Tour des Glaciers De Vanoise, one of the most beautiful walks that lovers of the mountains can envisage and the occasion to discover and to admire (at a distance) the biggest population of ibexes in the Alps and all over France (there are two thousand and numerous births), the chamois which can be seen with binoculars in the stony places, the cute marmot which whistles when someone approaches and the golden eagle, the bearded vulture flying over the summits.

It is also the territory of the rarest plants and jealously protected, some of which survived the great glaciations.

By leaving from the refuges towards the Balcon de Génépi, Blanc Lake, the Aussois Pass, one will discover the martagon lily, the blue thistle, the boreal limée or the androsace of the Alps and, particularly during the Petit Mont-Blanc hike, the mythical edelweiss.

You should miss under no pretext the visit to the village of Bonneval sur Arc, classified among the most beautiful villages of France. Every year it attracts eight hundred and twenty thousand visitors. Fortunately, not all at the same time!
