For those who are fond of hiking, a mountain stick is essential. It is in the Chartreuse, since 1898, that they are manufactured and where you can admire how craftsmen carve them. Giving everyone the possibility to see the work of craftsmen is one of the credos of the Park which lies between the Isère and Savoie regions.

If Saint-Bruno founded his abbey in the Chartreuse in 1084, it is not by chance. Nothing could be more appropriate for the establishment of a monastery than this site full of calm and mystery.
For many walkers, having a picnic in a place overlooking the Abbey, and hearing the songs floating up to the sky, are one of the moments of plenitude, which they would give up for nothing in the world, at least once a year.

Of course, there is the visit of the Cellars of Grande Chartreuse and also, thanks to the numerous local initiatives, the discovery of the work of craftsmen and farmers that live in the Grande Chartreuse range as well as its natural resources. Here craftsmen and artistic life abound.

One can go therefore, by foot, horse (why not...) and by car, to the manufacturer of canes and mountain sticks, who carves them from the young chestnut tree and knows that, "as long as men like to walk in nature" the trade, which has been going strong for five generations, will still continue to feed the mountain stick makers of the area.
There is also Jacques Gaillard, who bought an old paper mill where rag paper made with a form, is still hand-made and this charms all lovers of graphic arts.
Between Lake Paladru and Lake Aiguebelette, the Chartreuse also has a love story with water. The meadows are green and the forests are deep. Among nature and among men, unique opportunities to resource oneself completely!
