It is both a restaurant and bar and a place which counts in Lyon, for its historic decor and also for its cuisine; a great double for this Art Nouveau café which continues our series on the discovery of these magical and inspiring places.

Since 1913, the Brasserie des Brotteaux has been charming connoisseurs of objets d'art, there are many in this place which faces one of the most illustrious auction halls of the city, in the former Brotteaux railway station.
You can come there in the morning for breakfast and take advantage of the light which plays on the opalines, caresses the sculptured wooden counter and the surprising original ceramics, the work of Gillardoni, an artist who also realized those for Hector Guimard, famous for his decoration of the Parisian subway entrances. A true treasure!

The bar is made of Villeroy and Boch earthenware and, if the young owner, Emmanuel Faucon, has carefully restored and maintains the brasserie in its original style, he has also known how to integrate more recent "works". Would you believe it, the resin chandeliers are home-made!
Of course, the place attracts film shoots which needs a period décor, and it also inspires directors, who regularly turn up at the brasserie with luggage, cameras and lightings. Recently it has seen Jane Birkin, Charles Aznavour, Pierre Richard and Michel Serrault and more recently it has also conquered, Vincent Lindon.

And moreover, if all these comedians are gourmets (which often goes together...), they are enchanted to discover there, a highly rated cuisine. Emmanuel Faucon has the soul of a chef; he eats up the gastronomic press and admires all the great chefs of the city.
He has entrusted the cooking to Laurent Morel, formerly of the Pyramid, in Vienne, and has made his restaurant the temple of meat. Angus Beef, flank and rib steak from Brazil and Argentina; here, the steak tartare is prepared with a knife. The other passion of the chef is wine and especially wines of the world. One does not come to the Brasserie des Brotteaux just for the décor!
