Summer gliding : Let’s go to glaciers !

Updating : 03/07/2006

In Rhône-Alpes, keen lovers of gliding have three play-grounds to devote themselves to their favourite leisure activity in summer, at Tignes, at Les 2 Alpes and, since this year, again in Val d'Isere. In summer, you can glide in the morning, practice all the summer sports in the afternoon and then celebrate in the evening!

The glaciers were hot spots! For a few years, due to the heat waves, it has been necessary to think about, in the high altitude stations, how to maintain glide sport in summer at a good level.

Everyone had to work hard and invest, for some, in snow culture.

So that, whereas Tignes and Les 2 Alpes still are the "top of the glaciers", we can see the great come-back of Val d'Isere on the market.

With snow parks and their riders, it is also a spectacle for the walkers who can admire their evolutions while being simply transported by the ski lifts, to the top of the summits.

In Les 2 Alpes, the glide devotees quite simply have the largest summer skiable glacier in Europe. It is a considerable asset, since the tracks are broad and the slope a gentle one, making it accessible to everyone. For the very active sportsmen, a snow park, a snow skate and the snow air bag guarantees the fun.

In Tignes, at the Funicular arrival at more than 3000m, you have the choice between the slopes, the visit of the ice cave and the snow park Freestyle Attitude. Let's go to the half pipe, bumps, hipe, quarter, rainbow and the sound system at its max!

At Val d'Isere finally, there was still 1,50 m of snow at the end of April on the glacier of Pisaillas, which made it possible to constitute a good base for the artificial snow which, well treated, melts twice as slowly as natural snow. All the more so since the five slopes which cross the glacier are exposed to the west, which means that, there is no sun before the afternoon. The moment, when, in Val d'Isere, like in the two other stations, you can precisely go for an excursion, go swimming or practice the numerous activities of summer.
