Tasting

When the "Vercoquin" wine-bar, which opened 2 years ago in Lyon, defines itself as a wine merchant, it is pure coquetry, because we are far from the "bougnat" (coal merchant who also used to run a small café) of the beginning of the 20th century. On the contrary, you can find there all the best wine and, at the moment, the best of the Beaujolais nouveau served by the glass.

What is gratifying for clients of wine-bars is that you can find the best wines there, even if you know little or nothing about wine. Liking it is enough.
For about twenty years now, wine-bars have multiplied in big cities and even in smaller ones. You can choose your bottles, following the good advice of serious professionals who know the vineyards well, and who share their knowledge with pleasure.

They also propose lessons, courses, tasting-session evenings and weekends around wine growers and wine growing areas and more particularly during this period, when the Beaujolais Nouveau is on everyone's lips, both literally and figuratively.
Thomas Delpy and Frédéric Sicre, two wine ‘passionates' who met at the Wine University of Suze La Rousse, are organizing what they call an exhibition of artists-wine growers, who propose tasting-sessions and tell about the wine they create. There are twelve in all and they notably produce Cornas, Fleurie, Saint Joseph, wines of Savoie and Côtes du Rhône, among others...

At Vercoquin, one can shop for wines, from 4 euros to 170 euros a bottle, from among two hundreds brands; most of them natural wines and more than half of them sold for less than 15 euros.
At night, at the weekends, you can taste wines, from 2,50 euros a glass, with sandwiches; rillettes, Italian cooked meats, Italian cheeses, tiramisù ... In a convivial atmosphere, which remains one of the greatest qualities of good wines.
