To play in the category of beaches, water does not need to be salty and the open sea, beyond the horizon. Pure and fresh water, with the mountains in the background, is not so bad either! Aix les Bains and Thonon both have the precious label of Nautical Resorts.

Quite naturally, the thirty five nautical resorts of France granted with a label, are found along the coasts of the hexagon. Two of them however, located in lake areas, have been rewarded with the label, and they are in Rhone-Alpes.
They make equal play, by their infrastructures and the quality of their offer, with coastal towns such as Cannes, Antibes, Saint Raphaël,
Perros-Guirec or Les Sables d'Olonne.
Aix les Bains, first, welcomed the Olympic Sailing Championships (nothing less...) and has the largest natural lake in France (44 km2), Lake Bourget and a dozen varied nautical activities to be practised in water at 26°C during the summer.

Then, Thonon les Bains joined it with its eight kilometres of coastline on the edges of Lake Geneva and very active water sports, to be practised in calm or white waters (in the back country, there are numerous activities with the rivers and mountain torrents ...).
The marina welcomes nearly eight hundred boats, the nautical centre has three heated basins and there are many supervised beaches on more than 5.000m2 bathing area arranged on the lake.

In Thonon as in Aix, a Point Beach is open throughout the summer so that holiday makers and others can fully benefit from the joys of bathing and water sports.
But one of the charms, and not the least, of these beautiful lake resorts, is the environment and the wonders to be discovered after the beach. The abbey of Hautecombe, in Aix, for example, the castle of Ripaille, villages of fishermen and all the paths of Chablais in the Léman country. A treat...
