Pérouges, medieval town, bathed in light

Firstly, it  is necessary to climb the sloping street which leads to the double wall of ramparts, well shielded from cars, then take the paved alleys, and then suddenly, one finds oneself face to face with a ragged, barefoot girl, with her face covered in grime and a lost look in her eyes  ... Absolutely striking.

A little farther on, on the Place du Tilleul, excitement; cables and cameras bustling. Once again, the shooting of a period film is taking place in Pérouges using the old houses of the 15^thand 16^th centuries, those of craftsmen, traders, weavers, as a decor, to reconstitute the scenes of the Middle Ages, the everyday life of farmers, and Lords who used to go to the fortified church.

For those who enjoy this return to the delights of French history, nothing is simpler than prolonging the adventure. The Inn has its rooms in the old houses, dining rooms are historic with its stained glass windows and the cuisine honours the soil of the Dombes with its thousand ponds.

For everyone else who are just coming to spend the day, it is almost obligatory to stop at the Inn, to taste the ‘galette au sucre' (flat cake with sugar) which can be served with cider or hot chocolate, but also and especially with the Montagnieu, the sparkling wine from Bugey which is at home here!
