Grand

The greatest cave of Côtes du Rhône wines

Updating : 21/04/2008

It is in what was an illustrious quarry, in the heart of the Drôme that are henceforth stored the vintage wines of the Maison Jaboulet. Which are, as everyone knows, among the most famous Northern Côtes du Rhône. Rendez-vous in the area of the great Hermitage!

Le Vineum Paul Jaboulet Ainé

The illustrious Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné, famous notably for its Hermitage "The Chapel" and "Chevalier de Sterimberg" had noticed these caves a long time ago.

The acquisition of this real treasure was made in 1992, so that the vintage wines can be kept in ideal natural temperature conditions, constant in winter and in summer.

The rate of humidity superior to 80 % does the rest and the wines age under cover in the subterranean galleries of three caves of different size and of different times, well sheltered in one thousand two hundred wooden barrels, carefully stored.

This site has been known for thousands of years. It was in the year 121 BC, that Romans extracted the first stones from the site. The quality of these of mollasse ‘bricks' has been used for the construction of the most beautiful cathedrals; like the ones of Strasbourg, Marseille, Valence, Lyon or Romans. Divine use...

The Châteauneuf quarries have always been used, including during the Second World War, by the Luftwaffe, and mainly as mushroom beds, but it is since the Maison Jaboulet has taken them over, that they have found what could be called a noble fate.

Since 2006, a shop was built to display the thirty five references of the wines produced by the house; and also a wine collection which proposes the discovery of the most prestigious vintages. Notably those mentioned at the beginning of this article.

It will of course be judicious to drink moderately and we could even say while meditating. The result is worthwhile!
