Jazz à Vienne
Set up in 1981, the Festival today hosts on average 180,000 festival goers each year. It is France’s top jazz festival and also enjoys an international reputation. At the last Festival, concerts took place on various different stages: the Cybèle stage, the Midnight Club at the Théâtre de Vienne plus the tented stage next to the Tourist Office for Jazz Mix. These three stages are free of charge (fringe festival). Last but not least, the mythical site of the ancient amphitheatre welcomed international audiences between 28 June and 13 July 2007 to enjoy the rhythms of flamenco and Brasilian beats, dream along with the blues, applaud some of the biggest names in jazz, such as Georges Benson, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Pat Metheny, or experience a spiritual boost from gospel music... cinema is also part of the festival, with a film screening at the amphitheatre.
